Heo Nam-joon has enjoyed growing popularity this year thanks to his leading role in the romance drama My Royal Nemesis. The series follows the unusual love story between Shin Seo-ri, a notorious villainess from the Joseon era, and Cha Se-gye, a ruthless modern-day chaebol heir. Their enemies-to-lovers romance has attracted considerable attention from viewers.

The actor has already chosen his next project, joining the cast of tvN’s upcoming historical romance drama Whale Star. Set in Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul) in 1926 during the Japanese colonial era, the drama tells the story of Heo-sua, a maid working for a pro-Japanese family, whose life changes after she rescues independence activist Kang Ui-hyun from the sea. Against the backdrop of Korea’s independence movement, the series explores love, sacrifice, and patriotism during one of the nation’s most turbulent periods.
Heo Nam-joon will portray Song Hae-su, an independence fighter who lost his family in the Primorsky (Russian Far East) tragedy. Driven by unwavering conviction, Song Hae-su is a man willing to risk his life for the greater cause. The actor is expected to share the screen with a star-studded cast in the highly anticipated series.
Whale Star is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
