On the preview aired at the end of the February 4 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, a teaser featuring Heo Gayoon offered a glimpse into her heartfelt interview. In the preview, Heo Gayoon revealed that she has been living in Bali for the past three years, explaining that she found a sense of simple happiness there after stepping away from her life in Korea.

Opening up about her decision to leave, she spoke candidly about the hardships she endured in the past, including being caught up in school violence and choosing to endure it in silence. She also revealed that she struggled with binge eating but was unable to confide in anyone, describing how she would eat until physical pain forced her to stop. These painful memories, she explained, ultimately pushed her to seek distance and healing.

Her story grew even more heartbreaking as she spoke about the sudden loss of her older brother. Heo Gayoon’s brother had been suffering from a chronic illness, and his condition worsened before he passed away in 2020. Recalling the moment she received the news, she said tearfully, “I was told that my brother had suddenly passed away,” before revealing the devastating words her parents later shared with her: “They said, ‘If you weren’t here, we’d want to follow our son.’” She described how her family struggled together to survive the overwhelming grief that followed, moving viewers to tears.

Earlier this year, Heo Gayoon had already touched the public with a similar confession through the Sebasi Talk channel, where she spoke about breaking down while organizing her brother’s belongings. She explained that her brother had only recently moved out on his own, making the experience even more painful. As she sorted through his apartment, his words replayed in her mind, and she felt deep sorrow that he had spent so much time working without being able to fully enjoy life.

What hurt her most, she said, was seeing that many of his household appliances were still brand new. “If he had known this would happen, he wouldn’t have said ‘next time’ or ‘later’ so often,” she reflected, imagining how much regret he might have felt. Overcome with emotion, Heo Gayoon concluded that the experience made her realize just how fleeting and fragile life truly is.

Her honest and vulnerable story has resonated with viewers, offering a powerful reminder of family, loss, and the importance of cherishing the present.
