A video capturing what appears to be a mysterious creature in Seoul’s Han River has gone viral, reigniting local legends and stirring up intense speculation on social media.

The footage, titled “A Real Monster Spotted in the Han River in Seoul,” was uploaded on July 11 by the YouTube channel Jungdam Story . In the video, a man fishing at night near a riverside parking lot close to the National Assembly Building in Yeouido notices a massive dark object moving through the water.

Initially, the YouTuber suspected it was a large fish, but as he observed it more closely, his tone turned to alarm. “It’s black, huge, and long. It’s coming toward me,” he says in the clip before fleeing the scene.

According to his account, the creature lingered in the area for about 20 minutes, continuously moving. He estimated its length to be between 6 to 10 meters , with a body thickness larger than an average human torso. “It seemed like there were two of them. I’ve been fishing for decades, but I’ve never seen anything like this,” he added.

The video has sparked widespread curiosity and debate online, with thousands of comments offering various theories. Some viewers speculated it could have been a school of otters, a crocodile, or even a giant snake. Others were more skeptical, suggesting it might be a trick of the light or floating debris.

This is not the first time the Han River has been at the center of a mystery. In 2022, a similar viral video showed a large, unidentifiable object in the river, which was later identified as a floating buoy.

While no official statement has been issued by Seoul authorities regarding the latest sighting, the video continues to captivate viewers, with many drawing playful comparisons to fictional creatures from Korean cinema, including the monster from Bong Joon-ho’s 2006 film The Host, which was famously set in the Han River.

As curiosity swells, one thing is certain: Seoul’s iconic river has once again become the backdrop for intrigue, mystery, and a touch of folklore.
