On September 6, Han Ji Eun appeared on MBC’s variety show Omniscient Interfering View. During the episode, she was shown checking on her pet lizard as soon as she woke up. According to her manager, she began raising the reptile through an acquaintance about five months ago. Han was seen hand-feeding the lizard, named Moni, while preparing a meal. The lizard’s tiny frame caught attention, with Lee Young Ja even commenting on its unusually large head. After feeding, Han remarked that she couldn’t play long with it, explaining, “Our body temperatures don’t match,” before returning it inside.

However, after the broadcast, viewers expressed outrage, claiming the lizard appeared dangerously undernourished. Many pointed out that its skeletal frame, with visible skull structure, indicated severe starvation and likened it to being “on the verge of death.”

Netizens reacted strongly online, saying:

  • “If you can’t care for it properly, rehome it. This is abuse.”
  • “How can you proudly show an animal that looks like it’s about to die?”
  • “That gecko looks like it hasn’t eaten for months. It could die tomorrow.”

Others criticized her for not learning the basics of reptile care before taking in a pet.

Han Ji Eun, who debuted in the 2006 film Dong-Bang Will Never Die, rose to popularity through JTBC’s 2018 drama Be Melodramatic. She has since starred in series such as Psychopath Diary, Kkondae Intern, Bad and Crazy, and films including Hitman 2 and Only God Knows Everything.
