On February 28, Han Hyo Joo appeared as a guest alongside Han Ji Min and Park Bo Young on the YouTube talk show Pinggyego, hosted by Yoo Jae Suk.

During the recording, which took place just ahead of her birthday, Yoo Jae Suk asked Han about her plans for the special day. After a brief hesitation, she revealed, “Coincidentally, on February 22 my birthday this year I’m graduating from Buddhist college,” leaving the host visibly surprised.

Han clarified, “I’m originally Catholic, but I wanted to study it. I didn’t change my religion I just wanted to learn.”

Curious, Yoo Jae Suk asked how long the program lasted. When Han replied, “About six months,” he was once again taken aback. He further inquired whether it was an actual university or simply a course and what the curriculum involved.

Han explained that it was a structured program focused on Buddhist theory, with weekly online classes. “There are no exams and no grades,” she added.

Han Hyo Joo Buddhist college graduation

Han Ji Min described it as “almost like studying the mind,” referencing a mindfulness program led by Buddhist monk Pomnyun. She shared that she had first encountered similar teachings in 2009 through writer Noh Hee Kyung and later recommended it to her agency representative and eventually to Han Hyo Joo. “She went even further and applied for Buddhist college. I thought that was really impressive,” Han Ji Min said. She also praised Han Hyo Joo’s sincerity, noting, “It’s not easy, especially online you might be tempted to turn it on and do something else. But she even diligently practiced the 108 bows.”

Han Hyo Joo responded modestly, saying, “I just wanted to try doing something consistently.” She also revealed that the graduation ceremony would be held online and joked that she planned to buy herself a bouquet of flowers to celebrate the occasion.

The unexpected revelation offered fans a glimpse into another thoughtful and introspective side of the actress, highlighting her interest in personal growth beyond her acting career.
