“Goodbye Earth” To Premier With Re-edited Version Filled With Ahn Eun-jin After Lead Actor Yoo Ah-in’s Drug Scandal
"Goodbye Earth" was re-edited due to Yoo Ah-in’s drug use scandal.
A press conference for Netflix’s new series “Goodbye Earth” was held at the Grand Ballroom in Itaewon, Seoul, on April 19 with the participation of the cast, including Ahn Eun-jin, Jeon Seong-woo, Kim Yoon-hye, and and director Kim Jin-min.
“Goodbye Earth” is a Netflix series about D-200 from the collision between the Earth and an asteroid. It is based on a novel written by Japanese writer Kotaro Isaka.
At the event, director Kim Jin-min mentioned the release date of “Goodbye Earth” being delayed as lead actor Yoo Ah-in started to face trial for drug use. “I asked Netflix many times if they would release the drama. I had forgotten about it for a while. It is amazing and nice to see it again,” Kim Jin-min said. “I have never thought that this work would not be released. There is no reason why it should not be released. I am not talking about Yoo Ah-in’s issue, but I would have thought it would be strange if this work was not released. I worked hard enough on it. It is not a work that will get stoned. I made it without feeling ashamed.”
However, in order to minimize inconvenience to viewers, Yoo Ah-in’s screen time has been re-edited to the extent that it does not interfere with the drama’s development. Director Kim Jin-min said, “At first, the issue (Yoo’s drug scandal) arose when we started editing the third part of the drama. At first, it wasn’t a complicated situation and I thought it would pass by. But the problem didn’t go as I thought. I was just about to tell Netflix that I wanted to edit it again. Netflix usually doesn’t let anyone change it after editing. To be honest, I have an excuse,” he said. “Since it is our duty to minimize inconvenience, we edited what might cause inconvenience to viewers. We also edited the volume. But it was too big an axis to touch this character. I hope you don’t feel uncomfortable. I tried hard enough to convince them enough. I edited the amount of Yoo Ah-in without covering the efforts of many actors. I earnestly ask for your understanding.”
“Goodbye Earth” will be released on April 26th.
