After Goo Hara’s death, someone broke into her residence in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, and stole a personal safe that contained her mobile phone.

Goo Hara abruptly ended her life on November 24, 2019. While actively promoting a new album in Japan, she briefly returned to Korea and posted a short message, “Good night,” on her official social media account on November 23, 2019.

However, just hours later, on the 24th, she posted “I’m scared..” on a secret account known only to close friends.

Her acquaintances left comforting comments such as “Sister, I’m here. Your reliable and strong sister,” and “Why are you scared, silly? I’m always on your side. Think of us,” but shortly after, the news of her death broke.

At the scene of her death, only a simple note was found, and no suicide note was discovered.

However, Goo Hara’s older brother, Goo Ho-in, mentioned that a housekeeper who had been with them for a long time said that Hara had written a will “just in case.”

Additionally, it was reported that the day before her death, Goo Hara called her close acquaintance, Ms. Hwang. Ms. Hwang, a key figure in the “Burning Sun” scandal, shared her complex feelings in an interview with the show’s producers.

Ms. Hwang said, “Hara actually called me that day,” adding, “She suggested we have dinner, but I was having a beer with a friend, and since my friend is not a celebrity, I thought it might be uncomfortable for Hara. So I said, ‘Let’s meet on my birthday,’ and hung up. The next morning, I heard the tragic news.”

She expressed her sense of responsibility for Goo Hara’s death.

Ms. Hwang explained, “Those who were arrested felt a lot of guilt and expressed deep condolences when Hara made that choice. Even though I’m just a friend, if someone had gone to Hara’s house and stolen her safe, I would have reported it.”

Goo Hara played a significant role in revealing details to the public about the “Burning Sun” by personally contacting a journalist with information.

“Burning Sun” refers to crimes, including sexual assault and the sharing of illegal videos, that occurred at the Burning Sun nightclub in Gangnam, Seoul.

This has led to speculation that the theft of Goo Hara’s safe might be connected to the “Burning Sun.” The perpetrator did not take any valuable items but stole the 31kg safe and fled.

Meanwhile, “Unanswered Questions” aired a composite sketch of the man captured on CCTV during the safe theft.

Experts speculated that the perpetrator wore an earring on his left ear, was in his late 20s to mid-30s, wore glasses for myopia, and had a slender face with a prominent nose. He was estimated to be in the high 170 cm range and had a sturdy build.

Former investigator Jung Chang-gil, known as the “Montage Specialist,” described the suspect as having “a long chin and slightly protruding cheekbones.”
