On June 1st, Netflix released a short video titled “Squid Game Season 2 | You’re Invited” on its official Korean YouTube channel. The clip offers viewers a glimpse into the upcoming season of the hit Netflix original series.
The video focuses on Gong Yoo‘s character, the “Ddakji Man” who lured Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) into the deadly “Squid Game” in Season 1. In a house that was clean and luxurious but filled with monochromatic colors, Gong Yoo meticulously prepared for his mysterious daily ritual.
Following a precise morning routine, Gong Yoo selects a suit and tie from an array of identical options before carefully packing his briefcase. The stark contrast between the red and blue paper “ddakji” (traditional Korean paper game pieces) and his colorless surroundings is particularly striking. Eagle-eyed viewers will also spot the familiar “Squid Game” business card and stacks of 50,000 and 10,000 won bills.
The scene then shifts to show Gong Yoo on his way to work, eyes closed in contemplation. Suddenly, he arrives at the subway platform where he first encountered Seong Gi-hun. Looking directly into the camera with a disarming calmness, he produces the paper ddakji and delivers his invitation: “Sir, would you like to play a game with me?” This moment serves as a powerful announcement of the series’ return.
“Squid Game 2” continues the story three years after the events of the first season, which premiered to global acclaim in 2021. The new installment promises an intense showdown between Seong Gi-hun, the previous game’s winner now seeking revenge, and the mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). As the real game begins anew, viewers can expect even higher stakes and more gripping drama.
The original “Squid Game” captivated audiences worldwide with its story of desperate contestants competing for a 45.6 billion won prize in a series of deadly children’s games.
