In an interview on the morning of August 26th at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul related to Netflix’s series “The Frog“, Go Min-si shared, “While preparing for this project, I tried to avoid watching similar genres or characters. I opened myself to various genres and continuously explored the script alone.”
“The Frog” is a suspense thriller that depicts how a suspicious visitor disrupted the normal lives of ordinary people in the middle of summer. In the drama, Go Min-si plays Seong-a, a mysterious character who arrives at Young-ha’s pension and disrupts his peaceful life.
Through this project, Go Min-si showcases a variety of faces, from a decadent face to a grotesque face. She put in great effort to present these new faces.
She especially focused on dieting. “I lost a lot of weight—down to my lowest weight of 43kg. During the filming of ‘Sweet Home’, I weighed 46kg, but I lost even more for this role. I wanted my spine to be more visible, giving off a raw, animalistic vibe. I hoped that feeling would come across and wanted to appear eerie.”
The character of Seong-a required Go Min-si to pay attention not only to the internal aspects but also to the external ones. “Since the character needed to appear attractively beautiful, I had to put a lot of thought into it. I tried blunt bob hairstyles, added waves and carefully considered the costumes. I tested various looks and selected outfits that matched the background colors we were shooting against.”
Her various efforts and considerations brought Go Min-si a sense of exhilaration. “I felt a thrill every time my new and diverse looks were captured on camera. This was the first time I intentionally dressed up for a role. It was both new and fun. The challenges were enjoyable.”
