(G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon, Concert on Grandmother’s Funeral Day “I’m Sorry I Couldn’t Be There for You”

(G)I-DLE's Jeon Soyeon paid tribute to her grandmother, who passed away just before the Seoul concert

On August 5, Jeon Soyeon took to her SNS and wrote, “My first friend, our grandmother. I’m sorry I couldn’t be by your side at the end, using the excuse of being busy, even though I called you my best friend. When we’re reborn, let’s be the same age and be real friends for a long, long time. I love you, grandma.

Along with her message, she shared a video from her childhood, where she is seen clapping and dancing in front of her grandmother.

Earlier, during (G)I-DLE’s Seoul concert held over the weekend, Soyeon shared, “There’s something I want to say before we end. My parents are here. This morning was my grandmother’s funeral, but I couldn’t attend much of the funeral because of work. I always wanted to be a good granddaughter, but I was too busy with work to take care of her properly. My grandmother was my favorite person.

During the rap part on her individual stage at the concert, Soyeon caused some confusion when she rapped, “Contract ends in November. Who can stop me?” This led to speculation about (G)I-DLE’s contract renewal. In response, Cube Entertainment clarified, “All members’ contracts are up for renewal next year, and Soyeon’s lyrics were simply part of the performance.”
