(G)I-DLE Yuqi reveals the reason she decided to join CUBE despite passing SM’s audition at the same time

(G)I-DLE member Yuqi revealed the reason she chose CUBE instead of SM.

Yuqi, a member of the girl group (G)I-DLE, guested on the June 14th broadcast of MBC’s entertainment program “Radio Star”.

That day, Yuqi said, “I’ve been interested in K-pop ever since I was in China. One of the guests today, Tablo sunbaenim… I’ve known him since a long time ago”.

She also told the story of when she passed the audition for both her current agency CUBE Entertainment and SM Entertainment.

Yuqi shared, “When I was in middle school, I was a member of a dance club. That’s how I started and came all the way here”, adding “I’m actually a big fan of Super Junior. So my dream was to join SM”.

She confessed, “I participated in SM auditions in Beijing four times. I did the 4th audition for SM then auditioned for CUBE the following week, but I received calls from the two companies at the same time”, surprising everyone. Kim Gu Ra asked, “Then shouldn’t you go to SM? Why?”. Yuqi replied, “I know”, drawing laughter.

Yuqi continued, “I thought about that a lot. SM was my dream, but at that time, CUBE had the girl group 4Minute. I like their styles. I really liked the strong girl crush concept, so that’s why I had lots of concerns about my decision”, adding “I have a cute and pretty face, which suits SM’s image, but my voice is more like CUBE’s style. I have a husky voice”.

In particular, Yuqi honestly said, “At that time, CUBE director told me, ‘If you sign a contract with us, we can let you debut next year’, so I chose CUBE”. Kim Gu Ra agreed with her, saying “Well, SM has quite a lot of trainees. You were smart”.
