(G)I-DLE Yuqi became model for Chinese cosmetic brand, immense popularity in China

Yuqi, who gained great attention as a member of girl group (G)I-DLE, was selected as a model for a Chinese beauty brand.

On February 21st, Yuqi signed an exclusive contract with Chinese cosmetics brand INTO YOU, and will be actively representing the brand for one year.

For Yuqi, there have been constant love calls from beauty brands, and she has signed SNS advertising contracts with Chando, Tom Ford, and Armani.

However, the female idol’s contract with INTO YOU stands out, seeing that it was achieved under China’s ongoing Hallyu ban. Since the THAAD incident, China has restricted the activities of Kpop singers in mainland.

While Yuqi is Chinese, she belongs to a Kpop group, whose main market is Korea. In line with the political situation, in China, individual activities receive more focus than group activities.

Therefore, Yuqi started with the release of her first digital single, “A Page”, in May 2021. The reaction was hot, with both songs in the single, “Giant” and “Bonnie & Clyde”, sweeping the Chinese music scene. The single also ranked #1 on Weibo’s real-time search terms and TikTok Challenge rankings.

Appearing on local entertainment programs also helped. In August 2021, Yuqi raised her popularity with an appearance in the 2021 music talent show “Stage Boom”. She also became a fixed member in “Keep Running”, the Chinese version of “Running Man”, and received a lot of love.

The fame of Yuqi’s group, (G)I-DLE, is also remarkable. Last year, (G)I-DLE won first and second place on the annual chart of China’s largest music platform “QQ Music” with “TOMBOY” and “Nxde”.

As a result, Yuqi is enjoying top-tier popularity in China, with her Weibo account having exceeded 7.58 million followers, the third highest overall among Kpop idols.

An official from Yuqi’s said, “We are receiving a flurry of advertising inquiries from Chinese companies, centering on the rainy season.” “As expectations for the lifting of the Hallyu ban are rising, we are also looking forward to (G)I-DLE’s activities in China”, they also added.
