(G)I-DLE Responds to Controversies Over Song Selection and Noise Marketing”

Through Kakao Entertainment’s music platform Melon, a spotlight video commemorating the release of (G)I-DLE’s new album [2] has been revealed.

This video includes behind-the-scenes footage of the MV shoot for (G)I-DLE’s new title track “Super Lady”, member interviews, and an honest Q&A session titled “Ask Anything”, where the girl group answer fans’ questions.

Particularly, Soyeon, who has been in charge of album production since (G)I-DLE’s debut, caught attention by stating, “This album was created after I constantly contemplated and made efforts to fill it with (G)I-DLE. It’s an album made with significance placed on the essence of what it means to be an artist.”

Meanwhile, (G)I-DLE is currently under scrutiny for controversies ranging from the selection of their new songs to suspicions of noise marketing.

In particular, (G)I-DLE’s pre-release song “Wife”, which is written by Soyeon, received a broadcast ban from KBS due to “overly explicit lyrics”, which contains sexual innuendos related to the song title.

Responding to KBS’s ban, (G)I-DLE’s side announced that they will not appeal the decision, and will instead promote with “Super Lady”. Later on, members Minnie and Yuqi have to halt activities due to health issues. Consequently, the comeback press conference scheduled for the 29th has been canceled.

However, the contents related to the comeback promotion released on this day have sparked another controversy.

(G)I-DLE’s side released comeback content through their official account, stating, “‘Super Lady’s splendid comeback, new expectations in the music market.” The released content highlights (G)I-DLE’s comeback in a news format. However, it has sparked criticism by delivering a text seemingly aimed directly at the critical voices directed towards them, stating, “G Group, controversy that doesn’t stop with stimulating comeback news”, raising speculations that all the controversies so far were intentional noise marketing.

Amidst this, there is anticipation on whether Soyeon’s short comment video can dispel the misunderstandings about (G)I-DLE. (G)I-DLE will release [2] at 6:00 PM (KST) on January 29 and meet fans through programs like JTBC’s “Knowing Bros”.
