(G)I-DLE Accused of Copying BLACKPINK’s Iconic Coachella Intro

A recent stage of (G)I-DLE is causing controversy due to being too similar to BLACKPINK’s

Recently, (G)I-DLE had a stage at Jingle Ball LA. Here, the girl group from CUBE delivered a performance that included a series of their hits. Appearing in powerful black outfits with a warrior-like style, (G)I-DLE created a vibe reminiscent of BLACKPINK in terms of their visuals. Despite having 5 members, they couldn’t avoid being compared to the YG global girl group.

More notably, (G)I-DLE’s Jingle Ball LA stage was accused of intentionally copying the iconic intro of BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That” at this year’s Coachella. Leader Soyeon took on the role of hyping up the crowd. The phrase “What’s up Jingle Ball, that it’s (G)I-DLE” was repeated almost entirely in tone and pitch similar to Jennie’s “Let me hear you f***ing scream.” Along with dance movements by the members, (G)I-DLE’s intro was pointed out by netizens to be 80% similar to BLACKPINK, not just a coincidence.

On social media, (G)I-DLE received criticism from many K-pop fans for deliberately copying the performance style of another music group. Additionally, BLACKPINK’s Coachella intro had an enormous impact, becoming a viral trend. Even Jennie’s hashtag #jenchella during the event went viral worldwide whenever she stirred up the stage. Therefore Soyeon faced negative comments for intentionally copying Jennie.
