Gege Akutami Mentioned Next Work after “Jujutsu Kaisen” Ending

The manga "Jujutsu Kaisen" concluded last week, but author Gege Akutami is already mentioning his future work.

While the popular manga “Jujutsu Kaisen” (often referred to by the abbreviation ‘jjk’ by fans) has come to an end, the career of its creator, Gege Akutami, is just beginning.

“Jujutsu Kaisen” was the first serialized manga by this mangaka, and it became a global phenomenon. Despite the controversial ending, one undeniable fact remains: “Jujutsu Kaisen” is still loved by fans.

However, now that “Jujutsu Kaisen” has reached its conclusion, it seems that Gege is already planning his next release.

Particularly, in VIZ’s latest “Mangaka Musings” update, Gege Akutami said, “It’s the final chapter!! Thank you for all your support! I’ll do my best to prepare for the next challenge!”

Every week, the VIZ publishes a few manga chapters along with comments from the author. The Mangaka Musings segment is a place where mangaka express their thoughts on the series, anime, or anything else.

Gege’s mention of preparing for his “next challenge” seems to have confirmed that he will work on a new manga in the future, and fans are surely eager to see what he creates next. Since the author has not promised a second part of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, it’s possible he may create an entirely new series.

The well-known “Jujutsu Kaisen” account on X, Myamura, also shared this message on Twitter/X. In the replies, a fan commented, “Gege actually a genius, the fact JJK is his first manga. His writing isn’t that good but he created enjoyable characters and story. He has a big potential in the future.”

In the end, it seems fans are gradually accepting that there won’t be a “Jujutsu Kaisen” part 2, with one saying,  “Geges writing is amazing. The “ending” doesn’t seem like an actual ending but a set up for what’s to come. It seems like what actually ended was Sukuna’s story. This was a story about Sukuna. And to be honest, for Sukuna’s story it feels really complete.”

Meanwhile, the ending of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, while completing the story, has disappointed some fans.
