BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and actor Lee Soo Hyuk have long been known as close friends in the entertainment industry, but their rare and candid conversation about a friendship spanning more than 20 years recently captured public attention.
The two appeared together on the latest episode of Daesung’s web variety show ZIP Daesung, where Daesung invited G-Dragon and Lee Soo Hyuk as guests—without telling either of them that the other would also be appearing. Explaining his decision, Daesung said that while the two are famous for their chemistry, they had never really shared the full story of their long-standing relationship, prompting him to create this unexpected reunion.
The show kicked off with a lighthearted mood as G-Dragon jokingly accused his groupmate Daesung of “using him for views,” immediately setting a playful tone. From there, G-Dragon and Lee Soo Hyuk comfortably opened up about their deep bond, which dates back to their teenage years before either had entered the spotlight.
Lee Soo Hyuk revealed that the two first met during their first year of high school, when they were around 16 or 17 years old. This prompted Daesung to recall a lyric from one of G-Dragon’s songs, quoting a line about being called a “jerk” by a real-life friend—before pointing directly at Lee Soo Hyuk. Laughing, G-Dragon confirmed the story, joking that the lyric should have explicitly named Lee Soo Hyuk instead.

When asked how often they talk on the phone, G-Dragon quipped that Lee Soo Hyuk tends to get lonely, while he himself enjoys talking. Daesung followed up by asking whether G-Dragon comforts his friend properly during those moments, to which Lee Soo Hyuk bluntly replied that G-Dragon doesn’t really listen—often putting him on speakerphone while scrolling through social media and liking posts. Daesung laughed, remarking that it sounded like something couples do, and G-Dragon admitted that their calls usually last one to two hours at a time.

Lee Soo Hyuk further explained that he usually calls G-Dragon after work when things have piled up, while G-Dragon tends to call when he’s out. Sometimes G-Dragon doesn’t answer immediately, but later calls back casually asking what Lee Soo Hyuk is doing, highlighting the natural rhythm of a long-term friendship built on comfort rather than formality.
Their bond goes beyond phone calls and private hangouts. Early last year, G-Dragon even invited Lee Soo Hyuk to appear on his variety show Good Day, further showcasing their close connection. Additionally, G-Dragon and Lee Soo Hyuk formed a friend group known as “88 Nation” with fellow 1988-born celebrities including Kim Soo Hyun, Jung Hae In, Im Si Wan, and Kwanghee, drawing significant attention online.
