On February 28, a video titled “G-DRAGON – 2026 ‘FAM’ MEETING VCR #2 GD’s Day In Life (Larry’s Day)” was uploaded to his YouTube channel. In the clip, he participated in an age regression hypnosis experience, tracing his memories backward through different stages of his life.
When the hypnotist asked whether he preferred to be called G-Dragon or Kwon Ji Yong, he thoughtfully distinguished between the two identities. “Memories after my debut would probably be G-Dragon, and before debut, Ji Yong,” he said, subtly separating the global star persona from his original self.
Imagining himself descending a 37-floor elevator symbolizing his years, he began recalling recent memories. He described seeing a concert filled with people. When asked about his early 30s, he responded briefly but honestly: “It feels suffocating. It’s the military.” The comment revealed the emotional weight he associated with his mandatory service, a stark contrast to the dazzling stage image fans are accustomed to.
Reflecting on his mid-to-late 20s, he said, “It feels like a concert hall. I was very active. I was flying.” The phrase captured the height of his career, when he dominated stages worldwide and shone at the peak of his fame.
However, when the hypnosis guided him further back to his trainee years, the mood shifted. He recalled being in a practice room with Dong Young Bae (Taeyang of BigBang). “I was conscious of others. There were many people, and we were in the corner,” he shared. It was a glimpse of the young boy who once practiced quietly in the shadows before becoming a superstar.
When asked about his elementary school days, he described himself as “ordinary.” Yet when questioned about whether he already dreamed of becoming a singer back then, he answered without hesitation: “Yes. I loved dancing.”
His earliest memory was traveling to Japan with his mother. He also expressed that he had received plenty of love from his parents while growing up.
Behind the glamorous name G-Dragon lies Kwon Ji Yong a boy who loved to dance, felt the pressure of military life, endured the uncertainty of trainee days, and later soared across global stages. Through hypnosis, the 37-year journey he unfolded painted a sincere portrait of an artist shaped by both struggle and triumph.
