Former NCT Lucas’ Sad Return: Criticized for One Remark

The return of former NCT member Lucas and one of his later remarks drew a lot of mixed reactions from netizens.

On April 1, Lucas (former member of NCT/WayV) officially debuted as a solo artist with the MV “Renegade.”

However, Lucas’s first music activity after his controversy in 2021 received a lot of mixed opinions from the public. So far, both the male idol and SM have faced audience opposition. In fact, even the title “Renegade” – a person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles, has sparked mockery from the public.

SM heavily invests in Lucas’s comeback MV.

Alongside releasing a highly-invested MV, Lucas attends many promotional schedules. In particular, the male idol has appeared on music shows as well as organized fansigns and fan meetings to meet fans.

Among them, a fansign event limited to 30 winners attracted the most attention, as despite the low number of attendees, SM rented a large event hall, which results in a photo of Lucas standing in a largely empty venue with only a handful of fans, prompting false mockery.

Particularly, due to the empty venue in the photos, many non-fans mistakenly thought that Lucas doesn’t have many fans. Many antis also took this opportunity to diss the male idol, on top of that also mocked his album sales and lack of digital achievements.

Against these criticisms, Lucas sent a message to fans, saying, “What people are saying online… guys, I’m not facing any trouble. I’m stronger than you think, so I don’t pay attention to those things. So all of you should also not care about those things and let’s be happy together in our world, Lucas’s world!”

However, this remark of Lucas led to him being mocked as “being unashamed”. According to many netizens, Lucas is acting “too confident” and showing little remorse despite his past controversies.

On the other hand, the fact that SM does not hesitate to invest in Lucas and pushes his solo career even more than other long-standing idols with a larger fan base irks a lot of people. Additionally, fans of Lucas also came under fire for continuing to show love towards a person with controversies.

Meanwhile, Lucas (birth name Wong Yuk-hei), was born in 1999 and was a member of boy groups NCT and WayV. He also participated in the Super M project, and was considered to be “favored” by SM.

However, during late 2021, some female fans accused Lucas of dating, cheating, and exploiting them for money, and allegations of Lucas bad-mouthing his parents and colleagues also started to emerge. In the end, Lucas had to temporarily suspend activities and later left NCT and WayV after facing strong opposition.
