Go Ji Yong was repeatedly voted one of the most handsome idols in K-pop during his time with first-generation boy group Sechs Kies from 1997 to 2000. On the afternoon of February 3, however, Money Today unexpectedly released a series of recent photos of the star, sparking intense discussion and alarm among the public.
According to reports, Go Ji Yong recently held a livestream on his personal account to communicate with fans. Appearing on camera, the 1980-born singer caused widespread concern with his drastically deteriorated appearance, looking extremely thin with visibly sunken cheeks. Many netizens admitted they could hardly recognize him at first glance. Across online communities, fans expressed shock, sadness, and worry, while raising suspicions that the Sechs Kies member may be suffering from a serious illness. Comments such as “What happened to Go Ji Yong?”, “He looks like someone who is seriously unwell,” and “Is his health really okay?” quickly spread online.
As of now, the star has not released any official statement addressing the rumors surrounding his health condition.
This is not the first time fans have voiced concern. In May of last year, Go Ji Yong appeared on KBS2’s Mr. House Husband Season 2, where viewers were alarmed by his thin and exhausted look. During the broadcast, he explained that his weight loss was due to heavy drinking and significant work-related stress. He also revealed that he had previously been hospitalized after his liver enzyme levels suddenly spiked.
Born in 1980, Go Ji Yong debuted in the entertainment industry at just 17 as a member of Sechs Kies. The group quickly rose to become one of the top first-generation K-pop idol groups, but disbanded after only three years. Following the group’s breakup, Go Ji Yong stepped away from the spotlight to study acting, before announcing his complete departure from the entertainment industry in 2004 to pursue a career in business.
Over the years, he has made occasional television appearances, including on The Return of Superman in 2017 and Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 – You Are My Destiny in 2022. Currently, Go Ji Yong is focused on managing his own company and is reportedly living a happy life with his doctor wife and their 12-year-old son.
