Forbidden and controversial love affairs of the Korean screen
Korean films are always creative in building situations, including pushing characters into forbidden relationships that do not receive the approval of society.
Secret Love Affair
Yoo Ah In transforms into a young artist named Lee Sun Jae – a boy who has a crush on piano teacher Oh Hye Won (Kim Hee Ae). Despite the big age gap, the couple still have passionate feelings for each other. It is worth mentioning that Hye Won is married but has special feelings for her student.
Yoo Ah In and Kim Hee Ae’s immersive acting draws viewers into their love story. The audience can feel their jealousy, anger at the forbidden love. However, the drama is controversial because of the love between the teacher and the student, especially when the teacher is married.
On the Way to the Airport
Choi Soo Ah (Kim Ha Neul) is married to a pilot, whom she had only met a few times before. Soo Ah and her husband have a daughter who is studying abroad. By chance, she meets Seo Do Woo (Lee Sang Yoon), a man whose daughter plays with Soo Ah’s child. The couple fell in love even though they were both married.
Despite the controversial plot, the drama still achieved respectable ratings and won several awards at the 2016 KBS Drama Awards. Kim Ha Neul and Lee Sang Yoon worked well together in the drama, bringing intense emotions. But the content of the drama when building a relationship between two married people still makes many viewers disagree.
Reflection of You
Jung Hee Joo (Go Hyung Jung) grew up in a poor family and married a rich man who loved her very much. The couple gave birth to a son and a daughter, seemingly very happy. However, it was gradually revealed that Hee Joo had an extramarital affair with a female art teacher. The film presents the complicated relationship between friendship and love.
Reflection of You is interesting to viewers because the audience can’t guess the motives of the characters and the ending.
Triple
The film tells the story of Lee Ha Ru (Min Hyo Rin), a professional figure skater. When Ha Ru’s mother remarried, the girl had a stepbrother (stepfather’s son) named Shin Hwal (Lee Jung Jae). When Ha Ru turned 13, both her mother and stepfather passed away in a tragic accident. Brothers Ha Ru and Shin Hwal have since been separated. When growing up, both work at the same company and Ha Ru falls in love with his stepbrother.
The love story of Shin Hwal and Ha Ru was opposed by public opinion, but the scriptwriter skillfully made it very pure and clean. The film also starred Song Joong Ki, when he was still a rookie playing supporting roles.
“Triple” is a work not to be missed if you are looking for an old and classic Korean romance movie.
Tree of Heaven
Park Shin Hye took on the role of Hana, a girl who lost her father and returned to live with her mother. When Hana’s mother returns to Korea from Japan, she is accompanied by her new husband and her husband’s son Yoon Seo (Lee Wan).
Hana fell in love with him at first sight, but in contrast, Yoon Seo didn’t have much feelings for her at first.
The drama has been broadcast in many countries throughout Asia. Their love story is set in the middle of a paradoxical context that brings tears to the audience’s eyes.
