Youn Yuh-jung appeared in the latest episode of MBC’s “Son Seok-hee’s Questions,” which aired on August 31st.
Host Son Seok-hee, who is Youn‘’’s neighbor’s cousin, said, “When you won the award, the neighborhood even hung a banner to celebrate that a world-class actress was born there.” Youn said, “I came home after a hard journey, and there was a banner in a handwriting I knew so well that I thought to myself, ‘I feel patriotism for this kind of thing.’
Youn will become the presenter of the Academy Awards next year. Regarding wearing a ribbon to console war refugees at this event, she shared, “I got to wear it at the organizer’s recommendation. I also said I would wear it because I was a refugee from North Korea.” When Son said, “There are people who say this is too political, right?” Youn replied, “Aren’t we all political?”
On her retrospective exhibition prepared by the U.S. Academy Award, Youn said, “It was a space with 1,000 seats, so 1,000 people can come to see. But I heard 700 people already made reservations.” Regarding the people she met at the event, Youn said, “There are a lot of outstanding Korean Americans. Director Lee Seong-jin must be popular in Hollywood. He served as the host for me. How hard it must have been to get there. I feel overwhelmed to see them. Korean-American directors come to see me when they make their debut. I guess I became some kind of godmother to them.”
The actress will also film her next film in the U.S. “I haven’t signed a contract yet, but it’s also a Korean American movie,” Youn said. “I guess there’s a rumor that I’m helping Korean American directors. Now there are Germain Koreans are also coming to me. That’s why I will become a world star.” Youn said about her work with the Korean-American directors, “I felt great. I’ve always cared about who I can help. How happy would I be if I could help like this?”
