FIFTY FIFTY faces new obstacles in contract dispute with management company

Two out of five eminent associations in the entertainment company have sided with ATTRAKT instead of FIFTY FIFTY.

SBS News reported that FIFTY FIFTY faced the danger of being “blacklisted” by major associations in the Korean music industry following the girl group’s contract dispute with their former agency, ATTRAKT.

The Korean Music Copyrights Association recently suspended the settlement of royalties this month in accordance with an internal regulation, stating that any royalty payment will be withheld in case of a dispute. The decision came out after Ahn Sung Il, CEO of The Givers, is suspected to have illegally obtained copyrights of FIFTY FIFTY’s hit song “Cupid.”

On the same day, the Korean Entertainment Management Association spoke up in favor of ATTRAKT and praised CEO Jeon Hong Joon’s achievements, dubbed “miracles,” for the group. This new backup for ATTRAKT is a major obstacle for the group.

FIFTY FIFTY

The statement reads, “We feel regretful about FIFTY FIFTY’s current situation. We hope the two sides are able to quickly come to terms.

Jeon Hong Joon is known in the industry as diligent, creative, and capable. He is regarded as an industry role model for discovering FIFTY FIFTY, who, through hard work, was able to chart on Billboard
and once again shine a spotlight on K-Pop.”

As more support is in favor of ATTRAKT, netizens believe filing a lawsuit was not the best move from FIFTY FIFTY. Even though “Cupid” was a big hit, the girl group has not secured a place for themselves in the entertainment industry. Now that big associations are showing support for their opposition, their future in the music field is becoming more challenging.
