Pop star Rihanna delivered a splendid stage at the Super Bowl halftime, but netizens are paying keen attention to one particular detail.
According to online media LADbible on February 13th (local time), Rihanna, who took a break for 5 years due to personal business, pregnancy, and childbirth, evoked cheers from the audience with her Super Bowl halftime performance.
Rihanna, who was the headliner of the halftime performance, appeared while wearing a red jumpsuit and easily grabbed attention.
The pop star then performed hit songs such as “Bitch Better Have My Money”, “We Found Love”, “Umbrella”, “Diamonds”, “Work”, among others, and the audience had a great time, singing along in unison.
However, during the performance, there was a scene that evoked controversies. In particular, during her performance of “Rude Boy”, Rihanna rubbed her hand on her crotch, before bringing the fingers to her face and sniffing them.
This scene quickly spread through SNS platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, with netizens showing mixed responses. Most of them seem to have taken Rihanna’s gesture negatively, however.
In particular, according to New York Post, netizens left various comments, such as “This gesture is inappropriate for a performance that even children can watch,” “It looks too dirty,” “I don’t know why she’s doing such a gesture”, and “Low energy and disgusting”.
Still, many fans defended Rihanna, praising her “sex appeal” and calling the performance “inspiring”, “astonishing”, and “incredible”.
On the other hand, Forbers reported that artists at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, including Rihanna, won’t be paid for their appearance. The media also added that Rihanna’s team have reportedly confirmed the pop star’s second pregnancy with A$AP Rocky.
