Fans Are Angry At N’s Absence From VIXX’s Comeback To Focus On Acting, “This Is Not The First Time”

Cha Hak-yeon (N) announced his absence from VIXX’s upcoming comeback

VIXX’s agency Jellyfish Entertainment released a spoiler video for its fifth mini album “Continuum” on November 5th, signaling a comeback on November 21st. As this is the first time the group has a comeback in four years and two months since the single “Parallel” released in 2019, fans expressed high expectations. However, Cha Hak-yeon announced in a handwritten letter that he would not participate in the team’s activities.

“I talked and discussed with the members for a long time, but eventually I couldn’t be with them as leader N for this activity. Although I cannot be with you in this album, I will cheer with all my heart in hopes that the memories of VIXX and Starlight, which will be newly written, will be recorded beautifully. I filled my 20s with VIXX and I will not forget that my roots are VIXX even now that I am in my 30s. I will work hard to repay you with my best.”

VIXX’s fans were very angry at this.

Fans first complained bitterly that they could not find a sufficient explanation, or apology in his letter. They also expressed great disappointment that he was unable to do group activities due to his filming schedule, which is set for the second half of the year.

VIXX’s comeback is extra meaningful this time as the group has overcome a very difficult period. VIXX enlisted in the military in 2019, then member Hongbin withdrew in September 2020 after a controversial live broadcast in which he disparaged INFINITE’s “Be Mine” song and choreography. In April 2023, Ravi left the team for military service corruption, so the group only has 4 members left. However, the members struggled to protect VIXX.
In January, Cha Hak-yeon was absent from VIXX’s concert and the other members had to carry performances which were supposed to be for 6 people. Leo, who was starring in the musical “West Side Story,” rushed to the practice room as soon as the musical was over. Ken and Hyuk joined forces with Leo by taking a practice video together at home despite catching a cold.

This comeback was also released despite Leo’s busy schedule with his plays and Hyuk and Ken’s with musical performances. In particular, Ken canceled the musical “22 Years and 2 Months” last month due to an early diagnosis of thoracic intervertebral disc hernia, making fans feel more sorry.

On the other hand, Cha Hak-yeon had a completely different action from the three members. He left Jellyfish Entertainment to move to Fifteen K after being discharged from the military in 2020 and has been absent from VIXX activities since then. Even on the 10th anniversary of his debut, which is the most meaningful to idol groups, instead of VIXX’s activities, he said in an interview, “Nothing has been decided about our comeback. I have to focus on acting rather than performing on stage and I want to be recognized as actor Cha Hak-yeon,” drawing fans’ resentment.

And again this time, even fans who believed in him and supported him turned their backs on him. Fans are expressing anger, such as “I support OT3,” “If you’re going to do this, you should rather leave,” “You can do well in group activities while doing individual activities such like EXO, INFINITE,” “Why are you absent when other members are willing to maintain the group?” and “Why are you still in the group when you don’t have the will to do group activities?”
