Explosive Reaction to the Name of a Male Idol in the “Burning Sun” Scandal Being Referenced in “Taxi Driver 2” 

SBS drama “Taxi Driver 2” presented an episode that satirizes the “Burning Sun Gate” incident.

Taxi Driver 2” has been making waves lately for its latest episode referencing the infamous “Burning Sun Gate” scandal. The episode, which aired on March 31st, features the character Kim Do Gi (Lee Je Hoon) going undercover at a club called “Club Black Sun” in order to catch On Ha Joon (Shin Jae Ha).

In this episode, a scene was also included that mimics the violent assault that led to the Burning Sun scandal. Additionally, a character named “Victor” was introduced in the episode while inside a VIP room at the club.

Viewers who watched the episode were quick to pick up on the reference to the Burning Sun scandal. Comments on social media platforms poured in, with many stating that “It’s obviously Burning Sun from the beginning with the violent assault and club name,” “Victor…Victory…Seungri (t/n: Seungri means Victory in Korean),” and “The timing couldn’t be more perfect, Seungri just got released from prison.”

The ratings for the episode also reflected the drama’s popularity. According to Nielsen Korea, “Taxi Driver 2” recorded a nationwide rating of 14.5%, with a high of 19.2% in some areas, making it the most-watched show in its time slot.

The “Burning Sun Gate” incident was an incident that erupted in 2018 when crimes such as drugs, sex crimes, illegal filming and distribution, and police collusion were revealed at Club Burning Sun in Gangnam, Seoul. 

In particular, former Big Bang member Seungri, singers Jung Joon Young, and Choi Jong Hoon were involved and were sentenced to prison, shocking the public.
