As tensions within EXO rise due to the high-profile dispute involving Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin (collectively known as CBX), fellow member Kai has unintentionally become a lightning rod for fan criticism.

On October 29, Kai sent a series of messages via the Bubble app teasing EXO’s upcoming comeback. He described the song as “intense”, likening it to the group’s iconic hits “Obsession” and “Monster,” and even joked about needing to protect his joints due to the choreography’s difficulty.

EXO Kai CBX controversy

“This new song is really intense,”
“The beat is seriously heart-pounding,”
“It’s got that same powerful vibe as ‘Obsession’ and ‘Monster’,”
“I’ll have to take care of my joints more than ever this time.”

While many fans welcomed the update, others were less enthusiastic especially international fans who took to social media accusing Kai of being out of touch. Critics argued that promoting a comeback without CBX members, who are currently locked in a legal and contractual standoff with SM Entertainment, felt “tone-deaf” and “weirdly cheerful” under the circumstances.

Adding to the tension, reports have surfaced suggesting one EXO member is “strongly opposed” to CBX participating in group activities. Although no names have been confirmed, speculation is running rampant within fan communities.

The backlash illustrates the difficult tightrope EXO members must walk trying to maintain group activities and fan engagement while navigating internal conflict that’s both public and emotionally charged.

As of now, Kai has not responded to the criticism, and EXO’s management has remained silent about the CBX situation, fueling further debate about transparency and unity within the group.
