EXID Hani’s Psychiatrist Fiancé Apologizes To Family Of Patient Who Died At His Hospital

On July 29th, Yang Jae-woong said via his agency Mystic Story, “All the medical staff members and I cannot hide our great sorrow regarding the incident that occurred during the hospitalization process at WJin Hospital. I sincerely apologize to the bereaved family members who are grieving after losing their loved one.”

He continued, “This incident occurred at the hospital where I’m serving as a director, and as the director of WJin Hospital, I am taking the case very seriously. The hospital will do its best to cooperate with external organizations in the ongoing investigation, including providing CCTV footage showing the situation of that time as well as the patient’s medical chart.”

Earlier, SBS cited reports from the bereaved family and reported that B, a woman in her 30s who was hospitalized to receive treatment at a mental hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do, died in May. The released CCTV footage of the hospital showed B, who was being hospitalized in a single room at the hospital, repeatedly knocking on the door asking the staff to let her out while complaining about pain in her abdomen. However, a nurse and a doctor gave B medicine then restrained her onto bed. An hour later, they released her after seeing no reaction.

Later, the medical staff tried to perform CPR and massage B’s body when she lost consciousness, but the patient eventually passed away. B was hospitalized 17 days before her death to receive treatment for addiction to diet drugs containing narcotics. The cause of her death is believed to be intestinal pseudo-obstruction.

The bereaved family was very angry at the hospital’s ignorance so they sued the hospital. They accused the hospital of giving B excessive amounts of sleeping pills and stabilizers, resulting in a lethal dose of stabilizers being found in her blood in the National Forensic Service’s autopsy. In addition, the bereaved family even filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission. The police already booked the hospital director and staff members for ìinvestigation.
