“Exhuma” Praised For Korean Peninsula Map And Cultural Features Hidden In Its Posters

“Exhuma” was an intense movie worthy of the intense poster design.

As “Exhuma” is set to surpass 10 million viewers in Korea, it is not an exaggeration to say that its posters decide the viewers’ first impression of the movie. The poster of “Exhuma” had symbolic meaning and invigorated the movie even before its release, drawing keen attention.

Empire Studios, which worked on the main poster for “Exhuma,” recently told Star News, “We all get excited whenever the work and posters we work on get such a big response from the audience,” adding, “We knew that “Exhuma” was an intense movie worthy of an intense poster design, but we are still impressed by its success.”

The studio focused on the dark and ominous mood of “Exhuma” with a single poster. “All of the characters showed off their symbolic appearance and acting that we wanted to capture in the poster,” the studio said.

In response, Empire Studios said, “We are always trying to express the relationship and hierarchical structure between each person through the placement of the characters in the poster. What we had in particular mind when working on the poster for “Exhuma” along with the element of the tomb is the eyes of the characters,” adding, “We wanted the audience to wonder what they were looking at, and we wanted to provoke the fear of the invisible evil that the characters would soon face.”

However, in the second character poster, the studio said it was an “unintended achievement” for the characters to look at east, west, north, and south.

Empire Studios says it tries to match cultural sentiments to Korean and overseas posters, adding, “However, we often get hints from the work and the good itself. What we really do is capture the original spirit of the work, and if we achieve it, we will be able to follow the cultural and emotional intentions based on the work.”
