On August 15th, Jung Min-jae shared a post from a Suga fan on his SNS account. The fan’s post stated, “You are accusing Suga of lying even though he is telling the truth. You should be ashamed for tarnishing Suga’s reputation based on fake news from Korean media.”
In response, Jung Min-jae wrote, “I mentioned in The Korea Times that it would be difficult for Suga to regain public trust and continue his activities smoothly in Korea if he doesn’t leave the group. Now, people are demanding an apology. But shouldn’t Suga be the one apologizing? Get a grip, everyone.“
After posting this, Jung Min-jae shared screenshots of comments left on his wife’s SNS, revealing that even his family was being targeted. He said, “They’ve gone as far as to leave comments on my wife’s SNS. It’s starting to feel creepy.” He also noted that some fans even attempted to change his SNS account password. Jung Min-jae added, “Do they think Suga’s drunk driving incident will disappear if they do this?“
Previously, in an interview with The Korea Times, Jung Min-jae stated, “The agency is unlikely to remove Suga from the group. However, it will be challenging for him to regain the trust of Korean fans.“
He further commented, “While we wait for the results of the police investigation, Suga has not only been involved in drunk driving but has also repeatedly lied, deeply disappointing Korean fans. Even if all the members complete their military service, as long as Suga continues to be active, the public sentiment in Korea will remain negative.”
Meanwhile, BTS’s Suga was booked on August 7th by the Seoul Yongsan Police Station for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). He was found alone after falling off an electric scooter while intoxicated in Yongsan-gu the previous day.
Following the incident, both Suga and his agency BigHit Music issued official statements. However, they were criticized for downplaying the situation by referring to the “electric scooter” as an “electric kickboard” and claiming that there were “no human or property damages”, leading to accusations of trying to cover up the incident.
