Ex-(G)I-DLE Seo Soojin resumes career as solo artist

Former (G)I-DLE member Seo Soojin, who halted her entertainment activities due to allegations of school violence, is preparing for a solo debut this fall

Seo Soojin will resume her career about 2 years and 8 months after suspending her activities due to allegations of school violence. Notably, she opened a personal SNS account in July, started sharing her updates and communicating with fans. Her careful preparations for a solo singing career are drawing attention.

In early 2021, allegations of school violence were made against Seo Soojin when a netizen named A, who was also her schoolmate, posted on an online community. More claims supporting the allegations followed, and actress Seo Shin-ae, who attended the same school as Seo Soojin, revealed that she was a victim of school violence perpetrated by Seo Soojin. This led to significant controversy.

Following these accusations, Seo Soojin left (G)I-DLE and Cube Entertainment. After her departure, (G)I-DLE reorganized as a 5-member group and achieved immense popularity with hits like “Tomboy”, “Nxde” and “Queencard”.

Seo Soojin reported A and others to the police for defamation, but the police ultimately closed the case, stating there was no evidence of wrongdoing. The decision was based on the belief that the claims could be true from A’s perspective, and there was no intentional falsehood.

Seo Soojin, through her legal representative, explained that during her middle school years, she was more interested in singing and dancing, and her dedication to academics was lacking. She denied receiving any disciplinary action and claimed there was no fact of school violence. However, she acknowledged the emotional pain experienced by those who came forward with accusations and expressed deep regret for disappointing fans and anyone who may have been let down.
