SBS’s new Wednesday–Thursday drama Dynamite Kiss (written by Ha Yoon-ah and Tae Kyung-min, directed by Kim Jae-hyun and Kim Hyun-woo) made a promising start with its first episode on November 12, capturing viewers with the sizzling chemistry between Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin.

According to Nielsen Korea, the drama’s first episode achieved 4.9% viewership in the Seoul metropolitan area and 4.5% nationwide, with peak ratings reaching 6.3% a strong debut for the romantic comedy.

The series begins with a fateful and unexpected kiss that sets off a dopamine-charged romance between polar opposites: Gong Ji-hyuk (played by Jang Ki-yong), a confident project manager who doesn’t believe in love, and Go Da-rim (played by Ahn Eun-jin), a struggling job seeker facing daily hardships.

Go Da-rim tries to escape her problems by taking a trip to Jeju Island, while Gong Ji-hyuk travels there for business. Their paths cross under chaotic circumstances including misunderstandings, fake dating schemes, and a dramatic kiss that changes everything.

During a chance encounter, Da-rim mistakes Ji-hyuk for someone about to jump off a cliff and grabs him in panic. The two fall together, leading to a series of comedic yet heartfelt moments. Later, Da-tim ends up pretending Ji-hyuk is her boyfriend to save face in front of her ex, and Ji-hyuk, seeing an opportunity, suggests they continue the act as “fake lovers.”

Their chemistry peaks when Da Rim, cornered by her ex, impulsively kisses Ji-hyuk triggering what the drama calls a “natural disaster-level” moment. Stunned yet intrigued, Ji-hyuk responds with a second, deliberate kiss, marking the start of their unconventional love story.

That night, we were like nitric acid and sulfuric acid our kiss was dynamite,” narrates Ji-hyuk, closing the episode with a surge of excitement that has viewers eagerly awaiting Episode 2.

Both Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin deliver charming and energetic performances that perfectly balance humor and romance. Cameo appearances by Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-gyu also added unexpected laughs.

Episode 2 of Just Because We Kissed airs on November 13 at 9 p.m. KST on SBS.
