Du Meizhu, the woman widely known for exposing disgraced Chinese-Canadian star Kris Wu, is once again making headlines but this time as the subject of a court enforcement action.
According to Chinese media outlet China on June 18, the People’s Court of Lingling District in Yongzhou, Hunan Province, publicly announced enforcement measures against Du Meizhu after she failed to comply with a court ruling requiring her to issue a public apology in a defamation dispute involving a woman surnamed Zhou.
The development marks another controversial chapter in the life of the woman who was once hailed as a symbol of justice for helping expose one of the biggest scandals in Chinese entertainment history.

The legal dispute began when a woman surnamed Zhou filed a lawsuit against Du Meizhu. According to Zhou, she transferred nearly 200,000 yuan to Du Meizhu after repeatedly hearing about her financial difficulties. As a supporter, Zhou claimed she provided the money out of sympathy. However, after later believing she had been taken advantage of and experiencing financial hardship herself, she requested repayment. Du Meizhu reportedly returned only 30,000 yuan.
Throughout the dispute, Du Meizhu denied accusations of fraud and maintained that she was innocent, stating that she would defend her rights through legal channels. However, the conflict escalated when Du Meizhu allegedly made a series of public accusations against Zhou and disclosed the woman’s personal information online.
During the trial, the court emphasized that Du Meizhu, as a public figure with a significant online following, carries a higher level of responsibility regarding her public statements.

Judges determined that Du Meizhu published allegations against Zhou without sufficient evidence, including claims that the woman had engaged in financial fraud, borrowed money to speculate in stocks, and committed loan-related crimes. The court concluded that these statements damaged Zhou’s reputation and social standing.
In addition, the court ruled that Du Meizhu improperly disclosed the plaintiff’s personal information without consent, creating privacy risks and violating her personal rights. As a result, Du Meizhu was ordered to:
- Pay 2,189 yuan in compensation
- 2,000 yuan for emotional damages
- 189 yuan for legal rights protection expenses
- Remove the disputed online content
- Issue a public written apology
While Du Meizhu reportedly paid the court-ordered compensation and deleted related content from the video-sharing platform Bilibili, she refused to publish a written apology on social media as required by the judgment. Because of her failure to fully comply with the ruling, the court confirmed on June 15 that she had not fulfilled all legal obligations and subsequently initiated enforcement procedures. Authorities have now ordered Du Meizhu to publish the required public apology.

Du Meizhu rose to national prominence in 2021 when she publicly accused Kris Wu of using his celebrity status to lure and sexually exploit young women. Her allegations sparked widespread public outrage and prompted an official investigation into the former idol. The scandal ultimately led to one of the most dramatic downfalls in Chinese entertainment history. Kris Wu was later convicted on charges related to rape and other crimes and received a 13-year prison sentence.
At the height of the controversy, many Chinese internet users praised Du Meizhu as a courageous whistleblower who stood up for women and challenged a powerful celebrity figure.
However, according to Chinese outlet 163, Du Meizhu’s reputation later became more complicated as additional controversies emerged. While many continued to view her as a key figure in exposing Kris Wu, others questioned aspects of the case after reports surfaced alleging that there had been attempts to obtain money from the singer during the dispute. Those claims fueled ongoing debate online and contributed to a more divided public perception of Du Meizhu. As a result, the woman once celebrated as a “goddess of justice” now finds herself facing scrutiny of her own.
As of June 2026, Du Meizhu remains active online but is dealing with the consequences of the court’s enforcement order. The latest ruling does not relate to her role in exposing Kris Wu. Instead, it stems from a separate defamation and privacy dispute involving a private citizen.
Nevertheless, the case highlights how public figures even those once widely praised can face legal consequences when courts determine that their statements cross legal boundaries.
