Drug Crime Lawyer Mentions G-Dragon’s Case, “Unusual Gestures Can’t Be Concluded As Drug Use Evidence”

On November 7th, lawyer Kim Hee-joon appeared on “YTN News Rider” and mentioned the investigation into G-Dragon’s drug allegations. G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong) recently attended the first police summons and tested negative in a simple drug test.

The anchor asked, “Is it more difficult to detect drug ingredients in dyed or bleached hair?”. In response, lawyer Kim explained, “I think there have been many misunderstandings regarding this issue. With advanced testing methods nowadays, it is still possible to check whether someone has taken drugs even if they dye or bleach their hair.”

Regarding the reason the police did not obtain G-Dragon’s mobile phone even though he expressed his intention to submit it voluntarily, the lawyer said, “According to media reports, the police requested a search warrant to check call history. However, the court rejected the search warrant application due to insufficient evidence. It is unusual because search warrants are often granted very easily. There seems to be a very ambiguous situation in terms of credibility.”

The anchor continued, “When Kwon Ji-yong went out after the police investigation, he kept moving his body from time to time. He smiled when asked to say something to fans. Some people doubt whether it was an expression of his relaxed attitude or an abnormal behavior. What do you think of his actions?”.

Lawyer Kim then replied, “You can’t say someone takes drugs based on such behaviors. That could be his unique habitual actions or gestures”, adding “It is very difficult to determine whether someone takes drugs by only looking at their way of talking or gestures. Not all drug offenders make unusual gestures”. He added, “There are two types of drugs, one boosts your tension while the other lowers it down. Depending on the type of drug they take, one’s physical reactions and behaviors can vary.”

Meanwhile, lawyer Kim Hee-joon also appeared on MBC’s program “Top Teacher” and gave a lesson about the reality of illegal drugs spreading throughout Korea.
