A case of severe dog abuse caught on camera in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province has caused widespread public outrage in South Korea. The incident occurred in a back alley behind a beauty salon and was documented and shared on social media on April 26 by a concerned bystander.
The witness, identified online as user A, posted a video of a large dog being repeatedly struck with a grooming clipper. A explained,

“During a local running event, there were many people walking by. The dog barked when approached — not in aggression, but out of fear. Then, a woman came out of the salon with a grooming tool, pinned the dog by the neck, and began hitting it repeatedly.”
The witness, unable to intervene directly due to their role as an event volunteer, captured the incident on video instead and vowed to report the abuser and seek legal punishment.

“The dog was tied up all day. Who knows how long it had been beaten like that? Please help share this widely,” the user added.
The video quickly went viral, drawing heavy criticism from the public. Online commenters expressed disbelief and anger, writing:
- That’s insane. The dog can’t even speak — is that how you treat it?
- I’m filing a complaint with the city’s animal protection department.
- Why even keep a dog if you’re going to abuse it?
Animal rights group CARE (Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth) responded promptly to the incident. According to CARE, the dog’s owner admitted to the abuse, stating they had taken the dog to assist with work behind the salon and lashed out when it barked at children who approached.
CARE further confirmed that the owner expressed remorse and agreed to surrender ownership of the dog, requesting that it be rehomed in a safe and loving environment.
The case highlights the importance of public vigilance and swift action in protecting animal welfare. Authorities and animal rights groups continue to monitor the situation and may pursue further investigation into potential violations of Korea’s Animal Protection Act.
