As the devastating fire that destroyed eight residential buildings in Hong Kong continues to dominate headlines, many top Chinese celebrities have rallied to support victims with large donations. However, one notable absence from the donor list has sparked public scrutiny—Dilraba Dilmurat, one of China’s most popular post-90s actresses.
A-list stars such as Cecilia Cheung, Jackson Yee, Xiao Zhan, and Yang Zi reportedly donated 1 million RMB (approx. $140,000 USD) each, while others like Han Geng’s family contributed even more. Amid this wave of charity, internet users noted that Dilraba’s name was missing, raising the question: “Why is she never seen donating during national tragedies?”
The backlash escalated as netizens recalled her previous donation records. During the 2021 Henan floods, when many celebrities gave at least 1 million RMB, Dilraba reportedly contributed only 500,000 RMB. During the COVID-19 outbreak, she allegedly donated 150,000 RMB, a figure significantly lower than her peers. Given her image as an “endorsement queen” with massive commercial value, critics have labeled her as “stingy despite being rich.”
Images of Dilraba from past public appearances resurfaced alongside sarcastic captions like “Too rich to care?” and “Beauty without generosity?” further fueling the fire online.
In defense, fans emphasized that charity should come from the heart, not public pressure. They highlighted that Dilraba has consistently supported social causes in private. Since 2012, she has donated to hearing-impaired children, visited orphanages, and promoted pet adoption—all without fanfare. Supporters argued, “You don’t measure kindness by how much money someone donates. A sincere act, however small, still matters.”
Others pointed out that Dilraba is not a free agent. She is contracted under Jiaxing Media, which takes a large percentage of her earnings. Her income is also heavily taxed, and unlike public assumptions, she has faced career challenges. After facing backlash for allegedly winning the 2018 Golden Eagle Goddess award through favoritism, she has had limited screen presence, with some years seeing no drama releases at all.
Despite her stunning red carpet presence and top-tier visuals that have earned her the title of “Red Carpet Queen,” Dilraba’s acting career remains under scrutiny, with many of her dramas underperforming in ratings.
