Detective Who Sketched Goo Ha-ra’s Save Thief, “We’ve Received Quite A Few Reports”
Detective Jung Chang-gil, who drew the face of the thief of Goo Ha-ra’s save, talked about the investigation process
Episode 253 of tvN’s entertainment program “You Quiz on the Block”, which aired on July 17th, featured the guest appearance of Detective Jung Chang-gil, a montage expert investigator.
Detective Jung Chang-gil, who is working at the Daejoen National Police Agency as a montage expert investigator, recently drew attention as he sketched the face of the thief of Goo Ha-ra’s save in “Unanswered Question”.
When asked about his feelings after receiving the request from “Unanswered Question” production team, Jung Chang-gil said, “I felt so confused. The style was similar to that in the Yeonju taxi driver murder case, but the eyes were not clearly shown. The suspect was also wearing a mask and a beanie so it took me a few days to finish the sketch. I watched the CCTV footage for two days and tried to find his distinctive features”.
Detective Jung Chang-gil explained that he could guess the physical characteristics and age of the suspect through CCTV. According to him, the thief is around 175cm tall based on the block height and is in his late 20s to early 30s based on the leg movements.
Listing things that he could guess, such as skinny jeans, beanies, glasses, and earrings, from the appearance of the thief Detective Jung continued, “He wore a parka but didn’t look fat. I think he weighs around 70kg. Also, I’m very curious about this point. People tend to wear normal clothes and outfits that are not too unique when committing a crime, right? They normally don’t wear clothes that shine in the dark. However, this person’s clothes glowed in the dark and his beanie was very unique. Maybe those were not clothes he bought to commit the crime, but they were actually his own clothes.”
He added, “Professional thieves don’t do that. In my experience, professional ones don’t enter the house through the front door because CCTVs are normally installed there. From the CCTV footage, this person kept touching the door lock. I think this person knows the password and is well aware that it has passed the 49th day after Goo Ha-ra’s passing. Is there someone who can give such information?”. The Detective also presumed that there might be an accomplice on the scene.
When asked if he received many reports, Detective Jung said, “There are quite a few reports, as far as I know”. Yoo Jae-suk then commented, “I hope the thief will be identified and caught soon”.
