Despite low ratings, these K-dramas hit the jackpot on OTT streaming services

Dramas with low viewership ratings don’t always mean they are unpopular.

The ongoing SBS drama ‘Our Beloved Summer‘ marks the second time Choi Woo-shik and Kim Da-mi acted side by side after three years and their first time co-starring in a rom-com. However, it is regrettable that the ratings have been low since it was aired.

According to FlixPatrol, an online content service charting site, ‘Our Beloved Summer’ has been drawing much attention globally as it ranked 9th in Netflix worldwide’s most popular TV shows as of January 19.

‘Our Beloved Summer’ is gaining high popularity in Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines. After the massive success of ‘Squid Game’, it seems that viewers around the world are paying keen attention to K-dramas.

Following the popularity on Netflix, TV viewership ratings of ‘Our Beloved Summer’ is on the rise, reaching a highest real-time rating of 5.8%, after being said to fall short of expectations with an average rating of 3%.

The same situation applies for JTBC dramas such as ‘Nevertheless‘ and ‘Inspector Koo‘, which were both evaluated as good dramas, but the ratings recorded were underwhelming. ‘Nevertheless’ took 3rd place in July-August, and ‘Inspector Koo’ was 3rd place in November-December, ranking 6th and 8th respectively in the total usage rate.

Another example is TVING’s original drama ‘Work Later, Drink Now‘, which became a trending topic in the second half of 2021 and was confirmed to begin production for season 2. Thanks to OTT platforms, there seems to be no need to be disappointed when the viewership ratings for TV broadcasts are not high.
