Last month, on the 6th, MEOVV officially debuted with their debut single “MEOW.” They are the first girl group from The Black Label, led by Teddy. Teddy, known for producing groups like 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, garnered early attention for launching his first girl group.
MEOVV was the center of attention even before their group name was revealed. The fact that it was a girl group created by Teddy and the first from his label generated significant buzz, especially with fans speculating about the debut members based on practice room photos. K-pop fans were also highly interested in the timing of their debut.
However, after debut, they haven’t been able to maintain that level of attention. Their debut single “MEOW” received mixed reactions. Those who expected a song similar to BLACKPINK’s past hits were disappointed.
Additionally, the music video failed to highlight the members’ charms effectively. As a debut song, it needed standout elements to capture attention, but both the camera work and the members’ movements felt static. As a result, they missed the opportunity to gain new fans through the music video.
Fortunately, there’s no disagreement regarding the members’ visuals. Their performance on live stages also showed decent skills. Despite their good looks and abilities, it’s disappointing that they couldn’t capture more attention. It remains to be seen if MEOVV can turn things around after their underwhelming debut activities.
