Decoding the irresistible charm of Lee Jong Suk and Yoona’s new drama ”Big Mouth”

Featuring star-studded cast including Lee Jong Suk and SNSD’s Yoona, “Big Mouth” is drawing positive reactions.

MBC’s new drama “Big Mouth” marks the first collaboration between famous actors Lee Jong Suk and SNSD’s Yoona and attracts the attention of audiences thanks to its exotic crime investigating story. “Big Mouth” has a huge potential to become another hit K-drama this August, and here’s why.

Prominent names in the industry

Owning a quality cast, “Big Mouth”’s first plus point comes from the acting performances. Famous for his lead roles in “I Can Hear Your Voice”, “Pinnochio”, “W: Two Worlds”, Lee Jong Suk is a staple in the industry, favored by anyone upon mentioning his name. After 3 years disappearance from the small screen, “Big Mouth” marks his highly-anticipated comeback.

In the first two episodes, Lee Jong Suk successfully portrayed a third-grade lawyer who keeps losing cases and cannot walk his talk. Yet, his redeeming point is his soft and caring attitude for his family and wife, Mi Ho (portrayed by Yoona).

SNSD’s Im Yoona is his leading counterpart. In “Big Mouth”, Yoona plays a talented and resilient woman with a stern attitude and some contrasting softer sides. With “Big Mouth”, she is showing her improvement with every new role.

Aside from the “visual couple”, “Big Mouth” also impressed the audience with the performance of the supporting cast, namely Gong Ji Hoon and Yang Kyung Won. Breaking away from the comedic image of Sergeant Major Pyo Chi Su in “Crash Landing on You”, Yang Kyung Won plays an upperclassman with hidden secrets: infidelity, lavish lifestyle, illegal drug use, to name a few. It is safe to say this image of him takes the audience by surprise. His sharp, cold look and vile personality causes goosebumps.

Captivating script

“Big Mouth” is about Park Chang Ho (Lee Jong Suk) – a lowly lawyer who is mistaken as a renowned scammer and is put in jail for the same reason. Accompanied by a firm and strong-willed Go Mi Ho (Yoona), “Big Mouth” is expected to bring an adventurous and thrilling story.

At first glance, many viewers thought “Big Mouth” is another legal drama. Nonetheless, after two first episodes, the audience realized the series focused more on the crimes of the upper class, the survival attempts of the main cast and a possible future revenge from the male lead.

Besides, the side-taking in “Big Mouth” is another unique point. The plot will take the viewers on a ride to see who Lee Jong Suk will work with and which one will be the traitor or what the true identity of “Big Mouth” will be.

Leading couple’s flowing chemistry

In the first two episodes, “Big Mouth” keeps viewers excited with the extremely adorable chemistry between Lee Jong Suk and Yoona. Knowing each other since their early school years, the pair ended up getting married after overcoming many obstacles. However, the hardship does not end there as more challenges await them. Nonetheless, they strive their best to support each other.

Apart from the two leads’ chemistry, the interaction between other characters is no less interesting. Most noticeable is the interaction between Chang Ho’s family, Chang Ho and his father-in-law and Chang Ho with Jerry (Kwak Dong Yeon).

Having various plus points, “Big Mouth” promises to be an explosive work this summer. “Big Mouth” is airing every Friday and Saturday on MBC and Disney+.
