Dayoung from WJSN has become the center of online debate after issuing an apology related to her interactions with members of MONSTA X.
The controversy gained traction after a post on the Korean online forum theqoo shared a Bubble message from Dayoung, where she addressed complaints from fans who felt uncomfortable with some of her recent comments and behavior involving the MONSTA X members.

In her message, Dayoung explained that she never intended to upset anyone and thanked fans for bringing their concerns to her attention. She added that even if her intentions were harmless, she believed she should reflect and be more careful if others felt hurt by her actions. The idol also asked fans to relay her apology to those who were offended.
The issue reportedly resurfaced due to renewed attention surrounding Dayoung’s longtime close relationship with the MONSTA X members, who are her senior labelmates under Starship Entertainment.
Over the years, Dayoung has openly spoken about how the MONSTA X members took care of her during her trainee days. She previously joked that she considered them like “fathers,” while the members affectionately referred to her as their “daughter.”
While many fans had long viewed the relationship as an innocent running joke between close colleagues, recent content brought the dynamic back into public discussion.
In a recently uploaded challenge video, Dayoung referred to Kihyun as “dad,” which triggered criticism from some fans who argued that the joke had become uncomfortable over time. The reaction intensified further because Kihyun had previously been linked to dating rumors involving another WJSN member, Bona.
Fans also revisited older interactions involving Dayoung and the MONSTA X members. In a recent YouTube video uploaded by Joohoney, Dayoung jokingly commented about Joohoney having a lot of money while ordering shaved ice dessert.
When Joohoney mentioned wanting his channel to perform better financially through views and sponsorships, Dayoung playfully encouraged MONSTA X fans to support the content so that “oppa wouldn’t go broke.” While some viewers considered the comment harmless teasing between close friends, others felt it crossed a boundary.
The situation quickly divided online communities. Some MONSTA X fans argued that Dayoung should be more cautious about using family-like nicknames and publicly displaying overly familiar interactions with the members now that everyone is older.

Others, however, defended the idol and criticized the backlash as excessive. Supporters pointed out that Dayoung and the MONSTA X members have known each other since she was very young and argued that the relationship had always been treated as a sibling-like bond within the company.
Several netizens also questioned why the issue suddenly became controversial after years of fans accepting the dynamic as playful banter between labelmates.
Despite the divided reactions, many fans acknowledged that Dayoung’s apology appeared sincere and hoped the situation would gradually settle down without escalating further between the fandoms.
