Netflix has confirmed that Culinary Class War 2 will premiere this December, even as its star judge Baek Jong-won continues to face mounting legal controversies.
On September 2, Netflix hosted the Entertainment Festival 2025 media event at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dongdaemun, Seoul. Attending the event were producers Hwang Seul-woo, Jang Ho-gi, Kim Ye-seul, Kim Hak-,in, Kim Jae-won, Jung Jong-ueon, Lee So-min, Kim No-eun, and director Yoo Ki-hwan, who addressed the decision to move forward with the release.

Director Yoo explained: “We have confirmed the December release. In situations like this, we carefully consider the wider impact. With 100 chefs and 300–400 staff members involved, we decided it was better to release the program as planned and leave the judgment to viewers.”
The announcement comes amid Baek Jong-won’s recent controversies. His restaurant franchise The Born Korea was referred to prosecution on allegations of violating farmland laws. Despite this, Netflix has chosen to proceed, emphasizing the collective effort behind the large-scale production.
The show pits “black spoon” chefs — self-taught, underground culinary talents — against Korea’s most elite “white spoon” celebrity chefs in a fierce 100-chef battle. The first season gained popularity for its intense competition and fresh approach to food reality programming.
With its second season premiering this December, Netflix expects both returning fans and curious newcomers to tune in, regardless of the off-screen controversies.
As one producer noted, “Ultimately, the audience will decide how they view the show and its cast. Our responsibility was to complete the production with the hundreds of people who put their effort into it.”
