CUBE Claims Of Damage Caused By (G)I-DLE Soyeon’s Contract Expiry Rap Without Prior Consultation

CUBE Entertainment revealed that (G)I-DLE’s Jeon So-yeon did not discuss with the company about her controversial rap

On August 3rd, the girl group (G)I-DLE held “2024 (G)I-DLE WORLD TOUR ‘iDOL’” in Seoul.

During the concert, Jeon So-yeon suddenly revealed the timing of her contract expiry in her rap part of “Is this bad b****** number?” solo performance. In particular, she said, “Contract ends in November, who would ever stop me?”.

In response to questions related to the Jeon So-yeon’s rap, CUBE Entertainment said, “The time for the members to renew their contracts is next year, and Jeon So-yeon’s mention of contract renewal in the second half of this year is only part of the lyrics for her performance”. They added, “Due to Jeon So-yeon’s unexpected behavior without prior consultation with the company, articles containing false information spread and caused damage to the company”.

Fans were very confused after seeing Jeon So-yeon’s solo performance. Fans on the online site X (formerly Twitter) commented, “As soon as I heard the part ‘contract ends in November’, I was very surprised. I only thought about that throughout the concert”, “I was very shocked”, “(G)I-DLE fans are still attracting many fans, they won’t leave the company next year”, “I don’t think it is possible to renew the contract with all the members”, etc.

Some pointed out that Jeon So-yeon should not have mentioned the termination of the contract beforehand in consideration of fans.

However, questions emerged as CUBE Entertainment said Jeon So-yeon’s performance was not discussed in advance although the lyrics are known to have been sent out for media wall subtitles.

After completing the concert in Seoul, (G)I-DLE will meet fans around the world on the world tour to Hong Kong, Tokyo, Oakland, Houston, Rosemont, Taipei, Bangkok, Macau, Melbourne, Sydney, etc.
