Criticized For “My Dearest” Cameo And Inviting Daesung, Yoo Jae-seok’s Show Faces Double Challenges

MBC’s variety show “Hangout with Yoo” is facing a series of challenges and controversies

Despite undergoing a major revamp in July with changes in the cast and production team, the show has struggled to achieve significant success. Its highest viewership ratings after the reorganization were recorded during the “My Dearest” cameo appearance episode, capitalizing on the drama’s success.

However, the show’s cameo appearance in “My Dearest” received mixed reviews. While some viewers appreciated the fun and humor it brought to the drama, many felt that it disrupted the drama’s overall serious tone and detracted from their immersive experience. This controversial cameo appearance led to a re-edit of episode 13 to reduce the impact on the drama.

Following this, “Hangout with Yoo” launched a new project called “JS Entertainment”. This music project returned after a six-month hiatus, previously known as “Throwaway Entertainment”. Despite facing controversies, including the disappearance of parts featuring Jeong Jun-ha and Shin Bong-sun as well as paid voting, the project resumed under the guise of promoting One Top and JuJu Secret’s new songs.

Furthermore, the appearance of Big Bang’s Daesung in the main vocal interview for “One Top” stirred controversy. Daesung had previously faced criticism when it was revealed that an illegal adult entertainment establishment was operating in a building he purchased for 31 billion won in 2017. Although he was cleared of charges, this incident left a negative image, making his return less warmly received.

Amidst these circumstances, another Big Bang member, G-Dragon, faced allegations of drug use. This controversy also affected “Hangout with Yoo”, as the replay service for the episode featuring Daesung was temporarily suspended, raising speculations that G-Dragon’s case had an impact.

Besides, in the preview video, a scene imitating G-Dragon’s wavering walk and gestures was removed. This change was confirmed, indicating that G-Dragon’s influence led to the editing of some parts of the preview.

With Daesung joining JS Entertainment, he is set to have a fixed appearance on “Hangout with Yoo” for at least a few months. Yoo Jae-suk emphasized that “personality” is the most crucial aspect at JS Entertainment and that members with controversies should not be part of it. The uncertain future of “Hangout with Yoo” remains a concern.
