Could BABYMONSTER Become YG’s New Flagship with Charlie Puth Collaboration in Official Debut?

BABYMONSTER is set to officially debut as a 7-member group, including Ahyeon

On April 1st at 12 a.m. KST, BABYMONSTER will release their first mini-album ‘BABYMONSTER’ (BABYMONS7ER) and kickstart their global activities.

BABYMONSTER debuted as a 6-member group excluding Ahyeon, releasing ‘Batter Up’ in November last year and ‘Stuck In The Middle’ in February this year, but apart from music releases, they haven’t been notably active.

However, with Ahyeon joining, starting from the release of the mini-album ‘BABYMONSTER’, they will actively engage with domestic fans through appearances on music shows, fan signing events, etc.

Additionally, they’ve announced vigorous activities such as fan meetings extending to five Asian regions including Tokyo, Japan, Jakarta, Indonesia, Singapore, Taipei, Taiwan, and Bangkok, Thailand, and participation in Japan’s largest music festival ‘Summer Sonic 2024’.

Yang Hyun-suk, YG’s CEO, expressed this news as BABYMONSTER’s ‘official debut’. Yang announced Ahyeon’s joining in January, saying, “We’ve reinforced our internal producer team from about 10 to 40-50 people. We promise that things will proceed much faster than before, and our goal is to release a full album by fall.”

YG has nurtured top girl groups of their era such as 2NE1 and BLACKPINK. As Yang takes the lead again after a long time, it’s become a point of interest whether BABYMONSTER will continue this legacy in the music industry.

Another reason for the attention on BABYMONSTER’s ‘official debut’ is Charlie Puth. It’s unusual for a global pop star like Charlie Puth to participate in a rookie group’s album.

Charlie Puth worked on BABYMONSTER’s track ‘Like That’, a song in their upcoming album. This collaboration stemmed from Ahyeon covering Charlie Puth’s song ‘Dangerously’ last year. Ahyeon covered ‘Dangerously’ showcasing explosive high notes and versatile vocal skills, which caught Charlie Puth’s attention, leading him to comment, “I loved it.”

According to news sources, following Charlie Puth’s comment, discussions were held between YG and Charlie Puth’s team regarding BABYMONSTER’s new release. Charlie Puth modified and completed a demo song he had previously made to suit BABYMONSTER’s style.

Yang commented on this, “Both I and the members received a great gift from an artist we all love,” and raised expectations by saying, “When you all listen to it, you will love it.”

With the collaboration of Charlie Puth, anticipation is high for what records BABYMONSTER will set with this upcoming album.
