Controversy arise over BTS being pressured to perform at the 25th World Scout Jamboree

BTS suddenly got entangled in the controversies surrounding the ongoing 25th World Scout Jamboree.

The 25th World Scout Jamboree, which was originally planned to hold a K-pop concert on an outdoor stage at Saemangeum on August 6th. However, due to various problems, the date has been changed to the 11th.

As a result, the government suddenly suggested “BTS attendance card” as a solution to the date change problem and other controversies. Without prior discussion with BTS and their company, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism mentioned it as if BTS’s attendance were under discussion, saying “Nothing has yet to be decided”. Analyzing this statement, many people believe that the government is pressuring BTS to perform at the event.

However, it is difficult to make BTS’s appearance possible. First, the members have very tight schedules and there are only four days left until the event takes place on the 11th. During this short period, performance planning and stage equipment preparation are nearly impossible. Second, it’s hard to gather BTS members for a group performance since some of them are focusing on solo activities and some are serving in the military (Jin and J-Hope). Even the government cannot call members who are fulfilling military service for the Jamboree concert recklessly.

Prior to this, the 25th World Scout Jamboree organizer already sparked various controversies over their thoughtless plans and responses. After postponing the concert, the venue was also changed to Jeonju World Cup Stadium. Later on the 7th, they suddenly moved the stage to Sangam World Cup Stadium in Mapo-gu, Seoul. In fact, it was because fans of the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors football team protested as the team couldn’t use their home stadium (Jeonju Stadium) due to the Jamboree event.

Due to the changes in schedules, NMIXX and Verivery canceled their performance due to schedule reasons. Other groups are waiting for the organizers’ position before deciding whether to appear or not.

Apart from such issues, the 25th World Scout Jamboree also faced criticism due to poor management, sanitation, transportation, infrastructure, and even sexual crime allegation. In particular, on the 2nd, a Thai male leader was caught entering a women’s shower room at the Jamboree campsite and around 100 people reported that they witnessed the incident.

Amid continuous unsavory issues, the government suddenly mentioned the possibility of BTS, believing that their appearance would solve all the problems. In fact, the act of forcing BTS to perform would be considered coercion and violence.
