EXO’s Chen finally held a wedding ceremony three years after his marriage registration
On October 22, Chen held a wedding ceremony that had been postponed due to military service and COVID-19, three years after his marriage registration.
On this day, photos of Chen’s wedding ceremony spread around social media and online communities. All EXO members attended the wedding ceremony, drawing more attention to EXO’s loyalty to each other.
Earlier, Chen announced the news of his marriage and pregnancy in a handwritten letter in January 2020. The idol held his first daughter in his arms in April 2020, three months after that, and joined the army in October of the same year. In January last year, while serving in the military, his second daughter was born, making him a father of two children.
Chen has not been congratulated by some fans since he first announced the news because of his idol group member status and his girlfriend’s premarital pregnancy. There were also people calling for his withdrawal, fearing that his issues would negatively affect EXO.
In response, SM Entertainment they respected the opinions of the members and there was no change in EXO’s number of members. After that, Chen has been working actively as an EXO member, participating in their 7th studio album “EXIST” in July.
However, after three years, fans are still angry. Even on the day of his wedding, he seems to have failed to ease his fans. In particular, some fans are upset as EXO’s song “Don’t Go” was played at the wedding, since EXO themselves used to introduce this song as ”a pretty song that connects EXO and EXO-L.”
Moreover, concerns were raised about the team’s activities ahead of EXO’s comeback. Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin, members of EXO-CBX, notified SM of the termination of their exclusive contract in June. However, the two sides later announced the closure of the conflict, saying, “We have resolved the differences caused by misunderstandings and reached a mutually smooth agreement.”
Recently, it was reported that EXO members are leaving SM. In particular, D.O. left SM and joined a new company established independently by his manager. There were also rumors that Chanyeol and Sehun would leave SM to do their personal activities under a new company.
