BLACKPINK is performing “PINK VENOM” at the VMAs 2022, marking their return from a 2-year absence.
According to the announcement from YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK is performing “PINK VENOM” at the VMAs 2022 to be held in Newark, New Jersey, US. This makes fans overjoyed to finally see their idols’ rare appearances in an award ceremony.
However, while the award ceremony has yet to take place, BLACKPINK is involved in a controversy. On the night of August 22nd, the 2022 VMAs organizers announced the nominees for the “Group of The Year” Award where BLACKPINK was nominated alongside BTS, City Girls, Foo Fighters, Imagine Dragons, Måneskin, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Silk Sonic. Meanwhile, Coldpay and their 9th studio album was not included.
Noticeably, from July 2021 to June 2022, the period of work to be eligible for nomination at the VMAs, BLACKPINK did not release any official music products or music videos. Furthermore, the organizers also posted a Tweet with the caption: “@BLACKPINK will make history twice in one night at this year’s #VMAs”.
While some fans are arguing about BLACKPINK’s legitimacy at the VMAs 2022, others believe this may be a way the VMAs used to attract attention. They recall the VMAs’ lack of professionalism.
Apart from their nomination for “Best Group of The Year”, BLACKPINK was also nominated in “Best Metaverse Performance”. Lisa was also nominated for “Best K-pop” as a solo artist.
