On December 16, a new episode titled “The Difference Between When Men Say ‘Cute’ and When Women Say ‘Cute’” was released on YouTube channel TEO. During the episode, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung spoke candidly about how she is often misunderstood due to her public image.

“When people say I’m ‘unexpected,’ it feels like a compliment,” she said. “I especially like hearing that I’m more down-to-earth than they thought.”

Actor Kim Jae-young agreed, adding, “I thought the same you’re surprisingly very easygoing.”

Despite believing she was warm and approachable on set, Sooyoung admitted that behind-the-scenes footage told a different story.

“No matter how friendly I thought I was being, people didn’t really believe it,” she laughed. “When I watched the making-of videos, I realized why. I thought I was smiling and greeting everyone, but I looked so chic and cold on camera.”

Choi Sooyoung staff relationship

Curious about how veteran actors seemed to naturally connect with staff, Sooyoung began observing their behavior more closely.

According to Sooyoung, the secret was surprisingly simple. “When I watched senior actors, the staff treated them so comfortably,” she explained. “And I realized you have to swear a little. You have to do it in a friendly, folksy way. That’s when the wall comes down.”

She recalled trying it herself for the first time. “I went up to the youngest staff member and said, ‘Hey, XX, isn’t this tough?’” she joked. “And they replied, ‘Yeah, unnie, it’s really hard.’ From that moment on, I became the ‘comfortable unnie.’”

Sooyoung added that this shift often led to heartfelt moments later on.

“At wrap parties, those same staff members would come up to me and say, ‘Unnie, I’m actually a SONE,’” she shared, referring to Girls’ Generation’s fandom. “They’d give me letters and confess they’d been fans all along.”

The story drew laughter from viewers and praise online, with many applauding Sooyoung for her honesty and down-to-earth personality.
