Comedian Park Mi Sun has revealed that her son is actor Choi Sang Yeop, who has quietly established himself in the theater world after changing his surname and pursuing acting without relying on his famous parents’ reputation.
The story was shared in an episode of the YouTube channel Rolling Thunder’s talk show New Woman, released on June 30. The episode featured comedians Lee Kyung Sil, Jo Hye Ryun, and Park Mi Sun.
During the conversation, Jo Hye Ryun brought up Park Mi Sun’s son, explaining that he had changed his surname before entering the entertainment industry. “Your son changed his surname and has been working as a theater actor,” Jo Hye Ryun said.
She recalled first meeting him during auditions for the play I Love You, Mom two years earlier. “He came to audition, and only afterward did I find out he was your son. I had no idea. He’s so handsome, adorable, and a really talented actor.”

Jo Hye Ryun also shared a humorous family story involving Park Mi Sun’s husband, veteran comedian Lee Bong Won. According to her, Lee Bong Won initially failed to recognize his own son’s acting career. “Oppa didn’t even recognize his own son. He was always such a quiet kid, never someone you’d expect to become an actor. Then he realized, ‘That’s Sang Yeop? That’s my son.'”
She once again praised Choi Sang Yeop’s acting ability, emphasizing how impressed she was by his performances.

Park Mi Sun reflected on her son’s childhood ambitions, revealing that he originally wanted to become a comedian. “When he was little, his dream was to become a comedian.” She joked that both she and Lee Bong Won tried to nurture that dream from an early age. “His mom and dad were comedians, so we thought we’d teach him ourselves.”
However, her son eventually changed direction. “One day he suddenly said he didn’t want to become a comedian anymore. I was honestly disappointed.” Because she had little experience in the acting industry, Park Mi Sun admitted she wasn’t sure how to support him. Instead, Choi Sang Yeop chose to build his career independently. “I didn’t really know the acting world, so I wasn’t sure how to help him. He changed his name and has been quietly pursuing his career without relying on his parents.”

Choi Sang Yeop officially debuted as a stage actor in March 2023 through the play I Love You, Mom. Since then, he has steadily expanded his résumé by appearing in productions including Body Change, Hamlet Trial and Orlando.
He has also begun building a film career through appearances in independent movies while continuing to perform on stage. Interestingly, Choi Sang Yeop is currently signed to Cube Entertainment, the same agency as his mother, Park Mi Sun.
Despite his famous family background, the actor has largely remained out of the spotlight, choosing to let his performances speak for themselves.
