Choi Hyun-wook apologizes for smoking and littering cigarette butt on the street

Actor Choi Hyun-wook released an apology regarding his smoking controversy

Earlier on October 5th, a video showing Choi Hyun-wook smoking and throwing away the cigarette butt on the street quickly spread on YouTube and online communities.

In the video, Choi Hyun-wook was smoking while leaning against a car on the street and holding the hand of a woman. Later, he threw away the butt on the street before putting his hand on the woman’s shoulder and leaving somewhere.

As soon as the controversy broke out, Choi Hyun-wook wrote an apology, saying “First of all, I would like to apologize for having disappointed my fans. I should have been responsible for my actions in every moment, but I ended up disappointing many people with such careless behavior”, adding “Once again, I’m sorry to the drama director, the writer, all the actors and staff and everyone who have been working with me.” 

Lastly, the actor said, “I will humbly accept all the criticism and feedback. I promise to look back on myself and try to show a more mature appearance in the future”.

Choi Hyun-wook’s agency Gold Medalist also posted an apology, saying “We are sorry for greeting you with bad news. Actor Choi Hyun-wook of our company recently caused discomfort to many people due to his careless action of smoking while talking with his acquaintances on the street. He already admitted to his wrongdoings and is deeply reflecting on his careless behavior. We sincerely apologize to many of you who might have felt disappointed by the issue”.

The agency continued, “In the future, the actor will be more cautious with his actions and be more humble. We will also pay more attention to our management of the artist.”

Meanwhile, Choi Hyun-wook made his debut through the 2019 web drama “Real: Time: Love”. He then played a school violence perpetrator in “Taxi Driver” and gained attention after starring in the popular drama “Twenty-five Twenty-one” as Moon Ji-woong. The young actor also appeared in “Racket Boys”, “Weak Hero Class 1” and “D.P. Season 2”. He is greeting drama fans through tvN’s ongoing drama “Twinkling Watermelon”.
